On July 24 I was honored to deliver a presentation on Now Taking the Field: Baseball’s All-Time Dream Teams for All 30 Franchises as part of the Author Series at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. I spoke in the Bullpen Theater, and then discussed further and signed books outside the bookstore afterwards.
This was my seventh trip to Cooperstown, as I’ve lived most of my life in Rochester, NY, which is less than a 3-hour drive away. But it was my first visit in over a decade, and the first ever visit for my wife, Kassy LaBorie. We stayed at the Baseball Bed and Breakfast, a wonderful location just off main street. It has five rooms, each named after the initial five members of the Hall of Fame — we stayed in the Walter Johnson room.
We spent time walking up and down main street, taking in all the fun shops, a couple of restaurants, and visiting the batting cages outside Doubleday Field too. The Hall of Fame itself continues to be great fun, and I particularly enjoyed the many exhibits that have been added or expanded since I last visited. Only in town for parts of two days, we look forward to our next visit to take in more of the many attractions in the area, and of course visit the many baseball-related venues again.
I’d like to thank the Hall of Fame for having me, and especially Bruce Markusen for inviting me to participate in their annual Author Series.
